MACKEREL UPDATE 31/05/2017
We have been catching a few mackerel over the last couple of weeks on our longer charters but there isn't enough of them for me to want to start running the mackerel trips just yet so for now it's looking like our first mackerel trips for this year will be in the second week of July.

Fishing from Keyhaven in Hampshire aboard Osprey II with Greg these trips are great fun for everyone, no matter how old or young you are everyone enjoys a Mackerel Trip. Mackerel trips are perfect for complete beginners, individuals, family groups, workmates or anyone wanting to have a go at catching a few fish for the barbecue, smoker or freezer and of course the kids really enjoy the excitement of catching their first Mackerel. You don't have to fish if you don't want to, some people just come along to enjoy the boat ride taking in the sights & sounds of the Solent and Needles area. We fish for the Mackerel in the waters of the Solent between Hurst Castle and Yarmouth or around the Needles Lighthouse, depending on weather and tide conditions. We like to take our time on our Mackerel fishing trips therefore our trips have always been an hour longer than most at 3 hours in duration, this makes for a more relaxing experience and gives us more time to find you as many fish as we can if they happen to be a little scarce on the day. Also sometimes the tides are not ideal for fishing in the Solent so if the weather is being kind to us a 3 hour trip gives us plenty of time to take you all the way out to fish around the famous Needles Lighthouse. Our Mackerel trips get very busy during the school summer holidays so it's advisable to book well in advance for trips at this time.
If you prefer, why not private charter the boat just for your own group of friends & family then we can arrange the trip around your preferences whether they are mackerel fishing, sightseeing or a bit of both. Private charters can be arranged for any available day during the Mackerel season, phone us to check availability.

A message from Greg
Unfortunately over the last 3 or 4 years we have seen a decline in the numbers of mackerel around our shores making them harder to catch especially in the early part of the season so for now I will only be running my mackerel trips during the best months of July and August plus a couple of trips in the first week of September, as soon as the numbers of mackerel improve I will start running trips in June again. I like to be honest with people so please be aware of the mackerel situation when making your booking as I don't want groups of people making a big journey down to us expecting to "fill the boat" with mackerel like we used to and then going away disappointed, that's not what we want at all. Having said all that it is still a great little trip out on the boat for 3 hours and I will always do my best to find you as many mackerel as I can and I found last year that it was only me worrying about it really, everyone that booked said they'd be quite happy to enjoy their trip out on the Solent and if they caught a few mackerel that would make it all the better and for that I thank you all very much. Maybe this year will be much better as there was certainly a lot of small undersized mackerel around until quite late last year, we'll just have to wait and see what happens, hopefully the shoals of mackerel will start to recover soon as they are so important to the food chain of the sea and to the many small fishing businesses like mine around the country.
All the best and I look forward to seeing you all in the summer.
Cheers
Greg.

Website News
We will be moving to a shiny new website sometime during September 2017 and our name will be changing to Greg Pitt Sea Fishing, don't worry Ray has no plans to retire just yet but we need to upgrade to a more mobile friendly website and it makes sense to change to using my name now to save having to do it all over again in the future. I haven't finished all of the new website pages yet but it is live now at www.gregpittseafishing.co.uk so please take a look and bookmark the site so you can find us when we move. Cheers, Greg.
